On suspension of belief

I read, listen, and watch stories with an intense hunger. I love stories in all shapes and forms and can really get into the good ones. I am usually very good at suspense of belief at the drop of a hat and with  very little persuasion i am there believing everything i see and hear.

There is one thing I find it difficult to believe though, stories set in the future that try to convince you that in a few years all creativity will be dead or illegal.  Ican’t even get myself to comprehend this.

Every one has an imagination, though the amount of it does differ in people just like any other trait. The world thrives and thirsts for creativity and art in any and all forms from fanart to toothpick monuments. Its just a writers paranoia and fear that gets them to think about times and places where owning a book is a constint and absolute.

Ever hear of banned books? Yup crazy moms with mislead agendas trying to ban books. Ever read a ‘banned’ book? OF COURSE! libraries and schools have ‘banned’ book weeks and encourage reading them all the time! You can buy em anywhere! Just let the crazies have their fun and get em out of our hair while we read mark twain. :)

I bring this up because I have been going through the Escape pod archives (im in 2008, go check it out! http://escapepod.org soooooo good!) and once agian their is a story about a near future where conformity rules and creativity and genetic pride drools. I find this impossible to believe becouse as the writer gripes about all this, i am sitting here quilting, do not try to convince me of something while i am doing what nulls your argument!

Also about complaints that the internet is ruining people for creativity, the only way that happens is when a lesser (like myself) artist finds the bazillion (no exaggeration) of art and craft blogs out there. I think that the net, though crippling intimidating, does nothing but encourage and nurture art. Its a visual tool, every time you look at it you see someones art, there is no escaping it even if you wanted to! :D

Anyways, just a rant. So yeah writers, get over your selfs people will be reading your junk in years to come with no worries 9_9 sheesh

Now back to my own current creative outlet, quilting

and back to my own reason for living, listening, reading, watching stories
